When We Were Young by Mike Martin
Off-rhythms and the delicacy of piano contrasted – When We Were Young begins with a stylish organic genre-blending presence, bigger thinking, and captivating melodies.
When We Were, Young has magnificent layers of voice and a seductive overall flow from silence to near-euphoric uplift as the passion and brightness of the arrangement intensifies. Mike Martin is the creative driving force behind the project, with a sound that recalls the glory days of progressive music.
Mike Martin is a Spanish pianist, composer, and Toledo musician. In 2004 he was awarded the prize for best student at the Jacinto Guerrero Conservatory. He has studied under great jazz interpreters like Iván Melón Lewis (Cuba), Iñaki Salvador (Basque Country), Mariano Díaz (Argentina) and Albert Bover (Barcelona). He has also been a professor of jazz piano at Alfonso X El Sabio University. Currently, he teaches piano, guitar, composition, and singing at The Artist’s School in Madrid and enlivens events/weddings.
He has collaborated with various music groups of all styles, including Ruth Lorenzo (Pop), María Toledo (Flamenco), and Gospel Factory, among many others. He has also recorded and performed with Spanish artists such as Pitingo, David Bustamante, Manuel Carrasco, David Bisbal, Blas Cantó and Xuso Jones.
When We Were Young starts with a sudden burst of jazz and swing, the smoky clubs of a bygone era, complete with sensual solos – and a tune that adds to the lively good vibe with one of the most catchy melodies yet.
“When We Were Young” is a perfect example of Martin’s style. It’s a spacious, beautiful track that allows the listener to get lost in its intricate melodies. The title track is an instant classic, with its catchy chorus and driving rhythm.
Martin’s music is the perfect blend of classical and jazz, with a dash of Spanish flavor. His music is both sophisticated and accessible, and his passion for his craft is evident in every note. “When We Were Young” is a masterpiece, and I can’t wait to hear more from this talented artist.
