FDB “Everlasting “ Feat. EnJ
Ej-k’por feat. FDBbytheway presents a take on modern hip hop that comes soaked in a few different areas of inspiration. The opening riff, for example, despite the smooth and warm aura, has a definite Eminem vibe to it. The following beat, in slight contrast, has much more of a classic rap feel – which works well, it’s nostalgic and simple in setting the mood and laying the foundation for the lyricism that comes afterwards.
As an artist, Ej-k’por feat. FDBbytheway has a voice that moves easily between rapping and singing – there are some unexpected melodic moments, which again works well in adding character and keeping things going. Following this, there’s a brilliant flicker of electric guitar, which adds even more to the soundscape and to your view of Shane as a creative. Things sound different after this, you view it differently – perspectives change and the whole world starts to look brand new.
Lyrically this track is surprisingly emotional and open in its addressing of personal issues. The more you listen, the more surprising the whole set up actually is. What appears at first as a fitting and simple addition to the world’s hip hop, later evolves to be something more of a connection to a thoughtful, skillful individual – something fresh to find solace in.
In terms of the lyrics, this is perhaps something that at first blends into the simplicity and warmth of the soundscape. The song feels like a blissful piece of ambient hip-hop, the melody is minimalist and the vocal sound comes through with a significant level of reverb or whispered effects. The benefit of this, in my opinion, is that it holds the power to draw in absolutely any and all listeners – even those who are perhaps the most closed minded of all.
The social references to today’s world fit the sound and add to that relevancy and that reach among a modern audience. There’s a slightly haunting energy to the backdrop by the time the track ends, but I guess this makes certain you remember it. Ej-k’por feat. FDBbytheway utilizes the vibe of the music and the movement of the beat to craft a fitting and appropriately rhythmic bit of lyricism and wordplay. The vocals aren’t up close and personal, it’s a fairly raw recording, but you get the right kind of mood from it and you can easily tell the sort of creative approach this is and what inspires it.
