OC/IC – 2013 (interlude)
“OC/IC” single “ 2013” is one that seems more and more uniquely creative with every listen. The first time you hear it, the soundscape has this light bounce and dreamlike aura about it, which seems to contrast slightly with the smooth and calming melody that accompanies it. Contrast is a good thing, by all accounts, it gives music that element of unexpectedness; in this case adding to an already striking ambiance. The second and third times you listen though, the soulfulness and depth of the song really starts to pour through in an unstoppable manner.
“ 2013” is a “Underground Rap-Experimental” track that brings a stunning amount of delicacy, detail, and soul into the mix. There’s something quite vintage about the sound in a way, the instrumentation has the thickness and bounce of rap hits from a decade or two ago, though there’s undoubtedly a fresh level of energy to the whole thing.
Production wise this artist works hard to get creative with his music – it’s not simply about the drop or the sample, it’s about building something that hits hard and allows you to escape entirely into the moment. The first time you listen, the vibrancy and the overall energizing feel of the music is the first thing to grab you. Second time around though, pay attention to that detail, that complexity – “OC/IC” builds his tracks by layering only the most relevant of elements on top of one-another. Everything from that opening chop of the voice, to the leading steel-drum style synth riff, to the light yet quick nature of the beat – it all works in unison to create this ambiance around you.
“OC/IC” is a well talented producer who credits his personal experiences and spirituality in the creative crafting of his soundscapes. As an artist, he offers that inherent passion and skill required to carry an ambiance out and around you in a totally immersive, easy to escape manner.
Soon after this, the opening lyrics are brilliant – simple and effective, dealing with the truth in a calm yet clearly passionate way. The very second that “OC/IC” steps up with his rap vocals the whole sound just explodes into a new realm of brilliance.
